Foreign Secretary David Lammy has said 'we are all accountable to the law'
The Foreign Secretary David Lammy has said that it is “important” that “those that need to face justice face it wherever they are” After Wednesday’s publication of the final report into the Grenfell Tower fire, attention has turned to obtaining justice for those who died, their families and the survivors.
It added that “during that period the government determinedly resisted calls from across the fire sector” to increase regulation. On Wednesday night, the Foreign Secretary David Lammy was asked whether ministers who pushed for deregulation could be prosecuted. Misconduct in public office could theoretically be applied to public officials – including those in Government – for the decisions they made relating to Grenfell.According to legal guidance from the Crown Prosecution Service, “there must be a direct link between the misconduct and an abuse of those powers or responsibilities”.
