Russia's military this week launched attacks on key grain-exporting areas of Ukraine, after withdrawing from a UN-brokered deal to stop blockading the nation's ports.

Russia's military attacked key ports in southern Ukraine this week, after it withdrew from a UN-brokered deal.

Ukrainian officials say 60,000 tonnes of grain meant for export have been destroyed by drones and missiles.UN spokesman Stéphane Dujarric said the UN Secretary-General strongly condemned the attacks."We are already seeing the negative impact on global wheat and corn prices, which hurts everyone, but especially vulnerable people in the Global South."

"In just four days of the week, since Monday, Russian terrorists have already used almost 70 missiles of various types, almost 90 Shaheds [Iranian-made loitering weapons], against our state and largely against Odesa and Odesa region, Mykolaiv, our other southern cities and communities," he said. German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said Russia's army is launching an attack on the poorest people in the world.

White House national security spokesperson John Kirby said this is the largest set of sanctions and export control actions ever imposed on a major economy.
