A council CEO warned against the 'negative impact' of public scrutiny amidst concerns raised over delayed press questions and closed doors meetings while the same authority was 'singing the council's praises' in another instance. Concerns were also raised over the design of a royal Hillsborough house, which could damage King's Castle wall, and sewage pollution where 'shocking' lack of prosecutions were revealed.

'I am hearing that this council is particularly slow in responding to media queries. I would ask for that to be improved.

'I do think the council is improving its PR in recent months. It is far better for the council to get the message out there on things it is doing well, because no one is going to do that for you.

'I know people like me probably don't help matters, but my job is to scrutinise. But I commend those who are doing the job of singing the council's praises.

' Council CEO Marie Ward responded: 'I appreciate Councillor Bowsie's acknowledgement that sometimes in the scrutiny, which we are very open to, the communication of that in a negative way can have a negative impact on council. And I would remind all members of that.

'There is always room for scrutiny, but how it is done can have a negative impact on the council unnecessarily. 'In relation to the PR response to the media, I would prefer that we brought back the stats and facts on that as hearing and actually knowing are two different things.
