Hyndburn Council is looking at granting Uber a licence to operate in the borough and whether it can help set up an independent MOT testing station for taxis. The moves were announced to the authority’s cabinet meeting last week by borough leader Cllr Munsif Dad.

Hyndburn’s borough’s own licensed taxi and private hire drivers have long been complaining about the council’s MOT testing station and calling for an independent privately-run alternative. In February 2023 they threatened to go on strike over the issue, alleging "unfair treatment" at the council’s MOT testing centre.
