The world's best cyclists sped through the county in stage four of the race

Nottinghamshire County Council chiefs have dismissed claims that potholes were repaired on the morning when the Tour of Britain cycling race passed through the county. It comes after a resident claimed he saw sub-contractors repairing potholes in a Nottinghamshire road - hours before the Tour of Britain cyclists made their way through Normanton Road, Southwell, at around 1.42pm on September 6.

"These inspections allow them to identify any potentially actionable defects that have developed since the last regular inspection and those that have not been reported to us. An inspection took place on Normanton Road, Southwell, on August 31 and some potholes requiring a safety repair were identified.

A resident had claimed to have seen "sub-contractors hurriedly scramble to fill some of the potholes that have blighted the roads in this area and the rest of Nottinghamshire for years", saying the repairs were taking place on the Tour of Britain route.
