Further news on the wider project is expected by the end of the year
The leader of Nottingham City Council says she hopes the former Broadmarsh Centre will be fully redeveloped by 2027 as a new city centre park opened for the first time. The masterplan for the area, which is one of the largest development spaces in any core city in Europe, was first unveiled in 2021.
“It’s a really proud moment because we have been talking about developing this for a few years now, so to actually get it done is fantastic,” she said. “We hope to have fully redeveloped the site by 2027.” Cllr Khan says funding for maintenance of the park area is guaranteed and built into the council’s budgets for the next three years. Safety has also been a priority, with four CCTV cameras and bright lighting installed to keep people safe.
“We will keep an eye on the area. I am confident it will be a safe space and an open and inviting space. I’m not sure how much exactly it costs to maintain but with developments you get Section 106 money. We’ve got money for three years in this plan at the moment.
