Zadrozny will face trial for alleged fraud and income tax evasion, Nottingham Crown Court heard today.
The trial of a Nottinghamshire council leader charged with fraud and tax evasion will be held outside of his home county. Ashfield District Council leader Jason Zadrozny will face trial for alleged fraud and income tax evasion in a different city, Nottingham Crown Court heard today.
Zadrozny has pleaded not guilty to the charges as he appeared in court on Tuesday morning . The 43-year-old of Sutton Road, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, is charged with 12 counts of fraud by false representation, and four counts of income tax evasion. He appeared wearing a green jacket over a grey chequered suit and spoke only to deny the charges against him. After some consideration, Judge Nirmal Shant KC agreed with a motion put forward by Zadrozny's defence to move the trial to a court outside of Nottinghamshire.Judge Shant said she would prefer "a location in the West Midlands", but would need time to find a court with capacity for the trial.
Zadrozny was released on unconditional bail, but will have to attend on November 15. Zadrozny represents Larwood ward for the Ashfield Independents on Ashfield District Council and became the youngest council leader in England in 2007. He has also represented the Ashfields division at Nottinghamshire County Council since 2007. Zadrozny stood to be the member of parliament for Ashfield in 2019, coming second with 27.6 per cent of the vote.
