Manchester City Council opens extra accommodation for rough sleepers as temperatures plunge below freezing

Extra accommodation provisions for people sleeping on Manchester's streets have been opened as temperatures plunge below freezing.

They today confirmed that cold weather measures are in place throughout the winter months to help rough sleepers off the street. Bosses say they invite those sleeping rough off the streets all year round, but 'strongly encourage' people to accept assistance as freezing temperatures are expected. Councillor Joanna Midgley, Deputy Leader of Manchester City Council said: "We invite people in off the streets all year round, but when the temperature is below freezing, as is predicted for the next five days, we know that some people who might normally be very reluctant to accept help are more likely to come in out of the cold and accept our offer of accommodation and support and we would strongly encourage them to do this.
