David Slater described the figure as 'incredible' and claims it equates to about £169 a bridge
A Dumfries councillor was stunned to discover that the authority has a budget of just £50,000 for repairs to structures in the Nithsdale area.
“It’s actually quite incredible. The last time the bridge was painted was in 2004 and it cost £73,000.The independent councillor called for better maintenance of local landmarks last month after he noted the rusty joints on the bridge that was built in 1875. “There are currently no safety concerns with the bridge and nothing that would suggest an issue with the structural integrity of the bridge.”
