Local authorities around Scotland are adamant their Low Emission Zones will be implemented after Glasgow city council wrongfully issued a fine to a compliant driver.

Scottish councils say they are certain their Low Emission Zones will be enforced properly after Glasgow's local authority wrongly hit a driver with a fine.

Other LEZs have been established in Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Dundee, and LEZ enforcement is set to begin in the cities next year. The scheme was introduced in a bid to clean up the air in built up areas. Edinburgh City Council Councillor Scott Arthur Environment Convener: “In Edinburgh, we are very conscious of the need to monitor Glasgow’s LEZ closely, particularly around enforcement and partnership working.

An ACC spokesman said: “Aberdeen City Council is not responsible for categorising vehicles. We would use DVLA data for enforcement. Similarly, the vehicle checker isn't run by the council but by Transport Scotland.
