County Championship sides are hoping to persuade Premier League owners to create 'multi-sport' models by buying stakes in their clubsExecutives are keen to find out the level of interest – and it comes as the landscape of domestic cricket is already poised to change dramatically.
“You look at a club like Manchester City and what they’re evolving into, with the stable of clubs their owners are building.wanted it in their portfolio, then there’s no doubt we would love to talk to them about that. “There’s a safety net in that sense, but there’s a lot of crossover between county cricket, franchises in the Hundred and top-flight football. A lot of these supporters would watch football in the winter and cricket in the summer. There are economies of scale at play here too.”
Newcastle owners PIF, the Saudi government’s sovereign wealth fund, have already spent huge sums across golf, cycling and F1. The country has also been continuously linked with cricket, without yet making a significant move.
