Countryfile's Adam Henson has opened up on the 'awkward and tricky' time he had with his wife, Charlotte, after they moved into his parent;s farmhouse
Countryfile presenter Adam Henson has opened up about a delicate issue he faced involving his dad during an 'awkward and tricky time' with his wife. In his new book, Christmas on the Farm, he recounts how taking over his father's farm led to some family turbulence.
He recalled: "Dad came to the farm most days, and he would walk into the kitchen without knocking, perhaps with a feed merchant in tow, while Charlie was breastfeeding Ella at the kitchen table. 'Any chance of a coffee, Charlie? ' he'd say, breezily." He continued: "I think this transition is something that affects all farms that are handed down through the generations. Charlie was very patient, but in the end I had a quiet word with dad about knocking before he came in, and gradually both mum and dad came to accept that the farmhouse was ours, and that we would live there in our own way."
"Because they moved into a smaller house, many of their belongings and furniture remained at the farm, which made it even more difficult to think of it as no longer theirs."
