Naiyahmi and Tai Yasharahyalah, strict vegans who rejected Western medicine in favor of herbs and superstition, were found guilty of child cruelty and causing the death of their son due to severe malnutrition.
When Naiyahmi Yasharahyalah was arrested, she was so thin and frail that she had to be transported to the police car in a wheelchair, weighing just under six stone. Her husband Tai was in a similar condition, and both were suffering from malnutrition due to their strict vegan diet and rejection of Western medicine.
Their obsession with 'clean' eating, which included only fruit, nuts, and seeds, led to severe malnutrition for both of them and their young son, Abiyah, who died from malnutrition while bed-bound. The couple is now facing jail time after being found guilty of child cruelty and causing or allowing the death of a child at Coventry Crown Court
