Glynn and Wendy Roddy, who manage the Willow Tree pub in West Bridgford, are raising £30,000 to buy the lease and secure the future of their community pub. The couple are known for their warm hospitality and community spirit, offering events and support to local residents.
A couple who see a community-spirited pub as their home have launched a £30,000 fund-raising bid to buy the lease. Licensees of the Willow Tree, in West Bridgford, Glynn and Wendy Roddy, returned to the pub in Rufford Way last July after two years away.
"If Wendy and I don’t raise the money needed to buy it, the Willow Tree pub will change hands again, giving it an uncertain future." "If we're not able to take on the lease, they'd get someone else. Hopefully it won't come to that and we can stay. We're optimistic but worried at the same time. It's like nervous excitement."
"We're looking at this as our home, this is where our girls grew up. We're looking to obviously pay the bills, put food on the table, run the car and do the normal things that most people do from a salary job. We're not looking to make all that extra profit. Their dedicated staff, Joan, Sara, Jules, Kath and "wonderful" cleaner Grace are more like family. Wendy said: "We've had quite a few different locations but this is by far beyond the best. Everyone rallies round and helps each other. It's a real community here, which we haven't really felt anywhere else.
