Lanette Canen and Johan Bodin have been jet-setting while they wait to board
A couple who had booked themselves on a "never ending" cruise, which has been unexpectedly stationary in Belfast for the past three months, have turned their waiting period into an adventure by travelling to various countries.
Johan, a retired carpenter hailing from Sweden, expressed his frustration: "We've had good time but we didn't sign up for a ship to stay in one port!" The adventurous duo, who first crossed paths while vacationing in Hawaii nine years ago, are shelling out $3,500 monthly for the cruise experience, which boasts an array of amenities including three restaurants, five bars and lounges, a spacious pool accompanied by two Jacuzzis, a spa, fitness centre, and even a library.
The couple have also developed a fondness for Irish music and local dishes during their unexpected sojourn. Johan expressed his joy, saying: "I've never met so many cool, fun, friendly people we keep getting asked to go out for pints by locals, everyone is so friendly." Meanwhile, Lanette from Arizona, US, shared her peculiar predicament: "We were able to get on the ship but not allowed to sleep on there, though we can do everything else."Being used to minimalistic travel, she further stated, "We are normally used to just travelling with a backpack we've only done one cruise together for two weeks, but it's a great way of seeing the world.
