Pressed on whether he will be hosting a Christmas party this year, the prime minister said:"We had events the whole time. We had an event for Hanukkah, we turned the Christmas lights on and all sorts of things in Number 10 in accordance with the rules as you would expect."deputy leader Angela Rayner wrote to Cabinet Secretary Simon Case to ask whether he will investigate the allegations or refer the matter to the police.
Under these restrictions, pubs and restaurants were forced to close except for takeaway and delivery, and affected some 34 million people living in London and other parts of England including Essex and Hertfordshire. The rules under Tier 3 also meant sports fans could not attend events in stadiums. Meanwhile, indoor entertainment venues - such as theatres, bowling alleys and cinemas - had to remain shut.
"People are rightly angry that whilst they were diligently following the rules to protect their community, Boris Johnson was letting parties happen in No.10. We need proper answers from the prime minister," she said.
