Here, the coronavirus is shown in a CDC illustration.CLEVELAND, Ohio – For the ninth consecutive week, the number of new COVID-19 cases in Ohio worsened, rising from 4,575 last week to 5,962 this week, the state reported Thursday.
Beginning in spring, case numbers moved steadily downward, but have been on an upward swing since early June. Thursday’s report marked the highest number of new cases since the end of February, and the total was more than double the amount at the same time last year. At least 1,381,661 Ohioans have received the updated one-dose COVID-19 vaccine, an increase of 1,255 people from the prior week, the state reported. This represents 11.8% of the state’s population.There were 141 Ohioans newly hospitalized in the last week, raising the total since the beginning of the pandemic in 2020 to 152,384. Four people were admitted into the ICU, raising the total since 2020 to 15,836.
