The new UKHSA figures also showed that Covid hospitalisations increased to 3.28 per 100,000 compared with 2.50 per 100,000 in the previous week – a 31 per cent increase. “If you have symptoms of COVID-19 or flu try to stay at home as it helps protect others, especially those who are more vulnerable to these viruses. If you are unable to stay at home when unwell, consider wearing a mask.”
They involve only two key mutations from the JN.1 variant – which was first detected in September and quickly became the dominant variant – that mean it can spread more easily.
