After falling for the past two weeks Covid cases are expected to rise again following England's semi final and final games
According to UK Government figures, there were 4.44 cases of Covid per 100,000 over a seven-day period on 10 July, a fall from 4.88 the week before, while the figure reached a high of 5.96 on 27 June.Although crowded stadiums significantly increase the risk of Covid for those people attending, “peaks in transmission on match days can be attributed mostly to social gatherings in homes and pubs” – because they involve many more people, the study found.
“Our study indicates that the peaks in transmissions were driven by social behaviors surrounding watching the matches – in homes, pubs, large public screenings and Wembley Stadium,” she said.
