READ MORE: Blackpool cowboy builder promised 'dream homes and gardens' but left trail of destruction in his wake Six months after the work began, Ms Raynor was so frustrated she told Hopkinson he was not to return to the property. Hopkinson accused her of fraud and said she was "playing the disability card" - after taking £13,500 of funds from the grant.
In November 2021, building control put a stop to the work on Ms Sowerby's house, as it was so badly done it was causing damage to a neighbouring property. Part of the roof was missing and the house was not even waterproof. Ms Isherwood paid £28,000 in installments, but in December 2021, Ultra Restore Ltd ceased trading. However in January 2022, Hopkinson asked Ms Isherwood for a further £4,000, which he asked to be paid into a different bank account without any explanation.
"The house was a mess", Judge Unsworth KC said. "It has caused tension with the neighbours and family life has been affected.
