Craig Beattie is backing Shanks to start but Billy Dodds reckons Che Adams could get the nod for one reason.
Steve Clarke was dealt a major Euros headache at the weekend when Lyndon Dykes joined Scotland’s list of casualties and was ruled out of the competition less than two weeks before the showpiece opener. But, while Beattie feels the QPR hitman’s pain, he reckons in Shankland and Che Adams there’s still plenty in reserve to keep the Tartan Army’s spirits high.
“It’s a conundrum Steve Clarke is going to have to figure out depending on his style of play. Depending on the opposition and what he’s looking for to break teams down. “The players have always been in and around it for the last few years. But now they are in great form. That’s the important bit, they are on form. The manager has probably had easier selections in the past but he’s going to have to decide who he wants to lead the line for us.”
“When I scored against Georgia in the last minute at Hampden it was Alex McLeish’s first game in charge and we had to win it to keep our hopes of qualifying alive. Unfortunately we fell just short at the very end of the campaign. He said: “We went through the qualifiers wondering who was going to score the goals for us. Sometimes it’s up to others to step up. Scott McTominay obviously came forward massively for us during that campaign.
