St Johnstone avoided the Premiership relegation-play off final with a 2-1 away win against Motherwell.
Craig Levein admits he was fooled into thinking Ross County had snatched a last-gasp winner against Aberdeen that would have consigned his St Johnstone team to the relegation play-offs.
Despite claiming a 2-1 away victory against Motherwell on the final day of the regular season, ex-Scotland boss Levein and his players faced an anxious wait to learn the full time result between the Staggies and Aberdeen, with a large chunk of injury time added on at the end of the game in Dingwall. With the scores level at 2-2, all Ross County needed was a winning goal to see them finish in 10th position above the Saints, but their failure to grab all three points saw Levein's men finish outside the relegation play-off zone by virtue of goal difference.
Speaking to BBC Radio Scotland, he said: "I'm obviously delighted and extremely stressed out. When the Motherwell fans celebrated after the game had finished just to wind us up, I had to take an extra couple of heart tablets.The veteran manager previously overcame health troubles during his spell as Hearts gaffer, when he suffered a heart attack in the summer of 2018 shortly after taking over the reins from Ian Cathro.
