The AFL has approved the umpire’s decision to hand Fremantle a controversial free kick and certain goal during the last quarter of the epic draw between the Dockers and Collingwood on Friday night. While the decision has sparked mass debate, Rule 18.13 clearly states that a field umpire “shall award a free kick against a player who hands the football to another player” and/or “engages in time wasting”.
Collingwood give away bizarre free kick in epic AFL draw. However, many people were not across the rule, and Collingwood coach Craig McRae was seemingly mystified. “I’m looking forward to what the AFL tell us about that, because I wasn’t aware that that’s a free kick, but clearly it is, because they don’t pay things that aren’t there,” the coach said. “I’m looking forward to seeing what they say. It will be what it will be. It doesn’t help us, does it? “I was confused.
