Discover the beauty of Cramond Island, a unique Scottish island only accessible at low tide, offering spectacular sea views and a perfect setting for a romantic Valentine's Day walk.
With Valentine's Day just around the corner, the Daily Record has returned with an extra-romantic Walk of the Week that takes in some truly spectacular sea views . While fancy dinners and quiet getaways are all well and good, sometimes nothing can beat a good old-fashioned hike. This week, we have chosen Cramond Island near Edinburgh . Cramond Island lies off the shore of the village of Cramond.
What makes the island unique is that it can only be reached at low tide, as the mile-long causeway that links it to the mainland is submerged when the tide comes in. Starting from the beautiful Cramond Beach, the walk over is easy and picturesque. Once you reach the island, you can head to its highest point — where you can enjoy gorgeous views out over the Firth of Forth. But careful planning is required. This walk can be extended to include the path up the River Almond to the Cramond Falls and ruins of Caddells Forge. Once you have returned safely from the island, you can head to the nearby Ye Olde Inn for a romantic dinner for two. The bar and restaurant serves up dishes such as fish and chips, breaded scampi, and steak and ale pie. It is important to check the tide times before heading out to Cramond Island. The tide can come in very quickly, potentially leaving you stranded on the island overnight. Read on for some photos showing why Cramond Island is the perfect romantic Valentine's Day walk. The full list of the top 10 most romantic walks in Scotland's Central Belt can be found on the Daily Record website. You could easily while away a whole afternoon just sitting on the sand gazing out over the peaceful sea views. To reach Cramond Island, it is as simple as walking along the causeway. Make sure you are well aware of the tide times before heading out, though. When the tide comes in, Cramond Island is completely submerged. While being stranded with your other half for the night might sound romantic, bear in mind that there is no accommodation on the island and February isn't known for its warm weather. The views out across to Edinburgh from the top of Cramond Island are simply spectacular. While the city is close by, it feels a world away. The Ye Olde Inn is around 45 minutes on foot from Cramond Beach, or five minutes by car. Featuring a cosy fireplace and serving up a varied menu, it is the perfect spot for a romantic meal for two
