It took 476 kilograms of clay and a whopping 8,400 hours to create the characters and set for Blackpool's latest family attraction.
Matt and Samantha told LancsLive they obsessively watched the animated film adaptation of Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s book The Gruffalo for two months solid to make sure they got everything right. The result, a Merlin Entertainments project which has been 18 month in the making, cost £2.3m to become reality.The magical indoor play centre is a world first, with young explorers able to have fun under the watch of a 2214mm-tall Gruffalo and his friends.
Wild Creations are experts in 3D printing, design, sculpting, moulding, casting, finishing, painting, carpentry, scenic painting, metal fabrication and theming for theme parks, theatre, exhibitions and TV. Describing the design process in more detail, he added: "We started by taking 3D CGI models of each character from the films. Our 3D modeller then posed them to work within the attraction and prepared them for milling . We then milled polystyrene blocks on our 7-axis robot to create the character models at full scale.
