The Flynn Fire ignited Thursday night near I-580 and North Flynn Road in the Altamont Pass.
LIVERMORE – A wind-whipped fire that began Thursday night in the Altamont Pass had grown to 500 acres Friday morning with 70 percent containment, officials said.Cal Fire officials said Friday morning that “weather and terrain continue to impact containment efforts,” but because of the diligent work of firefighters, forward progress of the fire had been stopped.
The Flynn Fire broke out around 9:45 p.m. near Interstate 580 and North Flynn Road, according to the Cal Fire Santa Clara Unit, which was battling the blaze with the Alameda County Fire Department. By 11:45 p.m., the fire had consumed 400 to 500 acres, said ACFD spokesperson Cheryl Hurd. Firefighters, however, were “making good progress,” according to Hurd.Cal Fire said crews were facing challenging conditions.
