The report commissioned by the ECB makes for painful reading, trashing the view that cricket is ‘a game for everyone’ 🖋️ GARSIDEK
Its findings drew an unconditional apology from ECB chief executive Richard Gould, new to the post since the report was commissioned, and a pledge to implement the recommendations in full. Well he might. It makes for painful reading, trashing the view that cricket is “a game for everyone”.
“It is our assessment that the extent, frequency and seriousness of some of the behaviours described to us reveal a culture in which overt discrimination often goes without serious challenge. The report wants to see action taken, or at least firm proposals for reform, within a year. The ECB will embark on a three-month consultation process to establish how best to address the findings.
Across all formats, cricket in this country shares a pathway problem which will take money to solve. Not easy when the ECB is working with a budget less than that available to middling Premier League clubs.
