Hospitals are struggling to maintain safe staffing levels because the Omicron Covid variant is sending huge numbers into self-isolation

Critical incidents are thought to have been declared at up to four other hospital trusts in the UK, with the chief executive of NHS Providers saying approximately half a dozen have done so. It allows them to "carry on providing the services that it needs to provide, particularly the critical and essential services".He refuted claims up to a quarter of staff could be off work with coronavirus, telling Sky News the data does not suggest this to be the case.
