Ryanair, train operator Avanti, and TV channel Sky News were among those hit by the tech problems, while NHS GP services have also been severely impacted across the UK.
Cybersecurity company CrowdStrike has issued a statement following an IT system glitch involving their technology that led to massive outages worldwide.
CEO George Kurtz stated: "CrowdStrike is actively working with customers impacted by a defect found in a single content update for Windows hosts. Mac and Linux hosts are not impacted. This is not a security incident or cyberattack. I"We refer customers to the support portal for the latest updates and will continue to provide complete and continuous updates on our website.
Edinburgh Airport experienced departure systems failures which lead to passengers missing flights and facing long queues outside of the airport terminal.
