Two more dogs have been confirmed for the Best in Show final at Crufts 2024
The winners of the Working and Pastoral groups move on to compete in Sunday's Best in Show finale, making a total of five finalists so far. After tonight's judgement, a Leonberger and an Australian Shepherd were selected, while a St Bernard withdrew from the Working Group final after becoming unsettled.
A Norfolk-based Leonberger named Neville won the Working Group title, humbling his owners, Lee Studholme and Kerry Rushby. The three year old pooch from Great Yarmouth will return to Birmingham's Resorts World Arena at the NEC to vie for the Best in Show prize at Crufts.READ MORE: Warning issued to anyone travelling to Spanish island as emergency declared With much amusement, Lee said: "I am gobsmacked and shocked! Neville is my goofball! He never lets me down he's a good lad. We have foster children so he is the big teddy bear for them." Equally excited co-owner Kerry exclaimed: "Neville is absolutely fantastic! He has had an incredible career I was a nervous wreck but it's an absolute dream come true! ". Viking, a three year old Australian Shepherd from Solihull, Birmingham, won the Pastoral Group title at Crufts. Co-owner Melanie Raymond shared her excitement: "Viking has had a fabulous year and Crufts is the pinnacle of everything so something we want to win. Viking was on fire, I had to keep up with him and to be fair I've only got little legs! ", reports Birmingham Live. Crufts 2024 Day 3 Working and Pastoral group winners and runners-up Remaining finalists on the shortlist: Note that the St Bernard best in breed - Pol/swiss/dan Ch Ercole Wielkopolski Bernardyn Ww - was withdrawn from the group judging after becoming unsettled in the ring.The Scruffts crossbreeds contest also took place. Diesel, a 13 year old Airedale Terrier/Labrador cross owned by Claire Whitehead from Barlborough, Derbyshire, won the Scruffts Family Crossbreed of the Year title. Hundreds of dogs competed in qualifying heats around the country in 2023, with 23 dogs and their owners taking part in the semi-finals. Claire spoke about Diesel as a dog who taught himself to detect epilepsy. He learned to bark whenever Claire's friend has a seizure and even brings her a blanket for protection. She said: "I'm trying to keep my tears in! He's my everything, I go nowhere without Diesel. I have a tattoo of his pawprint on my wedding finger and he is my world."
