A court overturned Mason's conviction Thursday.AUSTIN – A Fort Worth appeals court late Thursday overturned the voter fraud conviction of Crystal Mason, a Tarrant County woman whose case gained national attention.
“I was thrown into this fight for voting rights and will keep swinging to ensure no other citizen has to face what I’ve faced and endured for the past seven years, a political ploy where minority voting rights are under attack,” she said.In 2021, as part of a sweeping election bill, the Texas Legislature changed voter fraud laws to require prosecutors to prove a person knowingly cast an illegal ballot.
