The 35-year-old man allegedly pulled out a knife and demanded money from a shopkeeper on the town's Main Road before the worker escaped unharmed and trapped the thug inside.
The 35-year-old man is said to have taken out the weapon, demanding money from a shopkeeper on Main Road, Cumbernauld , at around 11.20am on Monday, December 23. However, the worker was able to get out the shop unharmed.
While trapped inside, the thug allegedly took money from the till and "poured ammonia all over the shop and attempted to set it alight". Police rushed to the scene and the man was arrested and charged. In a separate incident on the same day, officers attended Tombs Park in Coatbridge, at around 10.10am after dog walkers reported a male carrying a knife "with a 4-6 inch blade".
The 43-year-old was searched and found to be in possession of a knife, he failed to provide his details and was arrested and taken to a local police office where his identity was confirmed. He was charged with having a bladed article in a public place, failing to provide his details and he had an outstanding warrant for his arrest.
Officers stopped a male on Langloan Street matching the description and found he had a shop till in his possession. A nearby restaurant was found to be insecure.
