ILLEGAL DRUGS. The Bureau of Customs-Ninoy Aquino International Airport agent opens one of several unclaimed parcels containing illegal drugs with an estimated street value of P14.8 million in Pasay.The Bureau of Customs intercepted several unclaimed parcels containing cocaine and dried marijuana with an estimated street value of P14.8 million at the Central Mail Exchange Center in Pasay City.
In a statement, the parcels which came from Wilmington, California, USA, were declared as “hardware” but after inspection, the parcels were found to contain 2,452 grams of cocaine hidden inside black bolts wrapped in a parcel, estimated to have a street value of P13 million. In another six parcels which were intercepted at CMEC, the contents were declared as various personal items but found a total of 1,307 grams with an estimated value of P1.8 million worth of marijuana.
BOC-NAIA District Collector Yasmin O. Mapa said that appropriate charges will be filed against the consignees of the parcels for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act and the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act. “The bureau is implementing robust measures in safeguarding our borders, especially in the infiltration of illegal drugs into our communities, through diligent surveillance, advanced technology, and collaboration with other law enforcement agencies,” the BOC said in a statement.
