The Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad purchased two historic ALCO locomotives as part of its ongoing capital campaign that aims to expand and preserve its vintage locomotive collection.
The addition of the historic ALCO locomotives brings the railroad’s total number of locomotives to five, according to a news release.
“We are thrilled to welcome these two ALCO locomotives to our fleet,” railroad CEO and President Joe Mazur said in the release. “This expansion not only strengthens our operational capabilities but also underscores our dedication to preserving the legacy of these remarkable machines for future generations.”
The addition of the locomotives underscores the railroad’s commitment to preserving the rich history of American railroading and offering an authentic experience for riders. The railroad worked with a consultant to create a strategic plan to improve its operations to ensure the longevity of its locomotive fleet. The plan called for adding the two ALCO locomotives so the railroad can operate two trains at once – with one locomotive at each end. The additional locomotives will allow for one to serve as backup while another receives scheduled maintenance – enhancing the railroad’s operational efficiency and reliability, according to the release.
