The African cyber threat landscape continues to experience a surge in figures with the growing sophistication of threat actors. Theoutlines the increasing numbers and complexity of cyberattacks in the continent, with the prominent cyberthreat types identified as Business Email Compromise , Phishing, Ransomware attacks, Banking Trojan and Stealers, Online Scams, Cyber Extortion and Crimeware-as-a-Service.
Quite disturbing is the increasing role of youths in the surge in cybercrime figures in Nigeria. While there are many reasons attributed to these rising caseloads, experts have pointed to the need to amend Nigeria’s Cybercrime Act 2015. For instance, in a recent book titled, the authors, Dr. Robinson Tombari Sibe and Prof. Christian Kaunert, pointed out some of the challenges with the Cybercrime Act 2015.
