Cyclist, 80, who stole hearts of Glasgow residents to cycle for another decade after winning gold
An 80-year-old cyclist who came out on top in Glasgow's UCI Cycling World Championships hopes to have at least another decade of riding a bike left in him after becoming a world champion.
Becoming world champion "humbled" the retired US Navy soldier, also known as Jim, who first started cycling in 1996 after learning to ride a bike from 1984 Olympic silver medallist Brent Emory. But he never thought his love for the bike would one day make him a champion, and someone who has captured the hearts of Glasgow residents.
"It turns out Rob Legge had trouble at the start so he caught our group and pulled us along for a good 15 miles . "I felt incredibly happy when they announced I had won since at 300 metres I thought I would be second."
