THE pop group D:Ream have said they would deny any requests by the Labour Party to use their hit song Things Will Only Get Better in their General…

Speaking to LBC, founding members of the band Alan Mackenzie and Peter Cunnah expressed regret at allowing Tony Blair to use the song as part of his 1997 campaign, which resulted in a landslide victory for Labour.

On New Labour’s use of the song in 1997, Cunnah said Blair's decision to plunge the UK into the Iraq War had left him"politically homeless". Mackenzie, who spoke to LBC from his home in the Midlands, said: “I don’t think politics and music should be linked. “We can turn the page, we can start anew rebuild our country with Labour. And we will have a song for that moment if we’re privileged enough to come in to serve.”
