Merseyside Police has confirmed it is now investigating the hate crime and has appealed for information
The "verbal and physical racial abuse" of an Asian man during a chaotic night of disorder has been slammed as "utterly unacceptable".
Merseyside Police Detective Inspector Alan Nuttall said: "It is completely and utterly unacceptable for anyone to be subjected to verbal and physical racial abuse, and we simply will not tolerate people being targeted in this way in Merseyside. We are taking this extremely seriously and our investigation is ongoing to find the youths responsible.
The unnamed man, who has lived in Garston since 2016, told the ECHO he had never experienced anything like that before. He added: "I felt like I was going to die" and branded the scenes as a "warzone". The man also showed the ECHO several photos which showed injuries to his neck, arms and hands.
