A dad-to-be was happy with the names he and his wife agreed on for their twin daughters but when he realised where his wife got her inspiration from, it led to a 'huge fight'
A dad-to-be was excited after learning his wife was pregnant with twin daughters - especially when the prospective parents managed to easily agree on what to call their babies.
Picking a name for a newborn comes with a lot of pressure - after all, a name has to suit a baby at every stage of their life. It can also be difficult for parents to settle on something they both love, with each having different tastes and ideas on what's best.
While some opt to honour family members or cherished loved ones, others prefer to go for something a little more unique to ensure their child stands out from the crowd. But one expectant father thought he'd avoided any baby naming drama when his wife suggested two names they both agreed on - but when he learned the hidden meaning behind the names, he was left unimpressed and "in shock".
On Reddit, the anonymous man - who was 25-years-old at the time of posting - explained he and his wife Kaylie, then 22, had "prepared nurseries" for their "beautiful girls and talked a lot about names and such.
" He explained: "Kaylie suggested the names Bella and Sara, and even though they're pretty common ones I do like them and it didn't fall into the matching categories - or at least I thought that. " But when his wife's friend visited a few days later, she let slip the reason behind why Kaylie had her heart set on those particular names – and he was far from pleased about it.
He revealed the friend "burst out laughing" upon hearing their daughters' names, leaving Kaylie looking "embarrassed.
" When he asked what was going on, Kaylie's friend revealed the expectant mum had drawn her inspiration from a children's trading card game centred on unicorns and magical horses that they used to play together when they were little. The friend explained the game was called Bella Sara. The expectant father was disappointed with Kaylie's reasoning for choosing those names for their children.
He said: "After Brittany left, I was honestly left in shock and told my wife under no circumstances were we naming the girls that anymore because it's beyond cheesy and quite honestly ridiculous at this point.
"Kaylie deflected me and said no one even knows about the game and that it's fine but I refused and it turned into a huge fight. " The expectant father turned to fellow Reddit users for their views on the argument, keen to ascertain whether he was being unreasonable. The majority sided with Kaylie, agreeing the origin of the names was irrelevant given virtually nobody would ever pick up on such an obscure reference.
One Redditor said: "Bella and Sara are perfectly normal names, no one would even guess that they're from a card game.
" Another concurred and added: "Unless you played the game, knew someone that did or had a child that did, it wouldn't be an automatic connection. "
