Daniel Johnson was part of a gang who targeted HMP Liverpool
A man has been jailed for his role in a plot to smuggle more than £26,000 worth of drugs into HMP Liverpool.
Their operation was discovered as part of a police investigation into drones being used to fly contraband over the walls of prisons. On April 4 2022, police stormed their home base on King Avenue, where they found a switched-on drone with a package containing cannabis, ketamine, tobacco, two Zanco phones and an iPhone. They also found a rucksack containing more packages of an iPhone and charger, tobacco and cannabis, more Zanco phones and charger leads.
Sweeney, Doherty, and Maxwell were all jailed for their part in the "sophisticated" plot in April, while Whiting and Williams were given suspended sentenced. Johnson, a dad of seven, appeared at Liverpool Crown Court on Thursday, July 11, where he pleaded guilty to two counts of conspiring to convey a prohibited article into prison.
