Ross Thompson, 30, lashed out at Brian McBride at Glasgow city centre's Metropolitan on December 18, 2021.Glasgow Sheriff Court was told that Thompson called McBride an"orange b*****d" before punching him.Thompson pleaded guilty under provocation today to assaulting Mr McBride to his injury aggravated by religious prejudice.
The court heard that Thompson was on his Christmas night out for the recruitment consultancy he works at.Prosecutor Gail Campbell said:"Around 1.30am Thompson called McBridge an orange b***** and proceeded to punch him on the face."Mr McBride received a bloody nose and broke two teeth caps but did not attend hospital or a dentist.Ross Yuill, defending, told the court:"Mr McBride was unknown to the group and arrived extremely drunk.
"He made repeated reference to religion and football to the people in the group which included f*****s, paedos and t******s through the night. "He directed some of that to Mr Thompson and he was told to behave himself a number of times which he did not do."There was a face off...Mr Thompson punched him a number of times.Sheriff Allan McKay stated:"He should do what I do and avoid Christmas."
