THE first time Tom Rosenthal went on parade as gormless Private Pike in the remake of Dad’s Army, it felt like coming home. Because his famous father, TV sports presenter Jim Rosenthal, had a special nickname for Tom whenever he messed up.
“We are not remaking something that exists because they are three lost episodes,” he says. “All we have done is try to piece them together as accurately as possible “If we were trying to piece together a mosaic from Ancient Rome, is that ‘cultural vandalism’ just because you want to see what people saw 2,000 years ago? It’s a historical record. I think that guy just wanted publicity!”
