Mr Urey’s daughters had been unaware the father-of-four was in Ukraine until news of his and Mr Healy’s capture in the south-eastern city of Zaporizhzhia was reported in the UK.

As a diabetic, the mortal danger of Mr Urey being held by such hostile forces was apparent. “I think it was the month after we were told he had died. All he kept saying was to get the media involved, it was nothing about his condition.“We wanted hope, as in, he gets to come home now, and we just weren’t getting it. We saw that all the other men on the TV were getting charged with the death penalty, but for some reason our dad wasn’t on the news with these men.”
Paul Urey died while being held in Russian separatist areas of Ukraine, Russian state media reported in July “We got told he had died due to stress and illness. There are no words to describe how I felt at that moment,” said Ms Coman. “There is a lot to be done and me and my sister are so young, it’s a lot of money to have. Without all these strangers around the world helping us we would not have had that money.”
