The play area at Mercer Park in Clayton-le-Moors only reopened last month after a makeover
A father has spoken of his sadness and frustration after seeing the remains of an attempted fire at a park play area - just a few weeks after it reopened following a vibrant makeover. Brett Hill has been taking his children, who are six and two-and-a-half, to Mercer Park in Clayton-le-Moors since he moved to the area a few years ago.
“This park is for children and it is just selfish. The community needs something for children to do, especially during the school holidays. This is not the only place youths have tried to set fire to. Councillor for St Andrew’s Ward, Steven Smithson, said: “I was thrilled to put forward the upgrade to the play area facilities at Mercer Park when I was portfolio holder for Environmental Service at Hyndburn Borough Council. “To have the play area upgraded in time for families to enjoy throughout the school holidays was brilliant.
