The cause of death for a husband and father who vanished while on vacation with his family has been revealed.
, 60-year-old Stanley Kotowski died after he hung himself 'underneath' a home near the rental he and his family were renting on Hilton Head Island .
Authorities said that Kotowski cut off the flow of oxygen by using an "apparatus," but did not go into further detail. Authorities said that Kotowski found a small hatch near an outdoor shower of a nearby villa, which served as an entry point into a crawl space. According to Beaufort County Sheriff P.J. Tanner, during the extensive 11 day search, which involved drones, canines and door-to-door canvassing, authorities had discovered the crawl space, but were unable to make it all the way through.
On Monday, the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office said in an update that Kotowski's body had been discovered "underneath a residence" after they were "alerted to a home in Sea Pines in connection to suspicious activity."
