Melvin Pratt attended the iconic steeplechase at Aintree Racecourse alongside his wife, Lesley
. The 60-year-old spoke to the ECHO outside the Lord Sefton stand and ecstatically revealed he won just over £1,000 in yesterday's big race.
Melvin backed Corach Rambler to win after he closely followed the horse's form over recent months. He told the ECHO: "When he went out at Cheltenham, he absolutely strolled up. He was 10lbs out for the handicap and I knew he's got a great chance."Melvin has been a horse racing fan since he was 16 but was delighted as Saturday was the first time he had ever backed the winner of the Grand National.
He said: "They paid for the tickets for my 60th birthday that got me here." Melvin said he is going to return the favour with his winnings by doing something special for the whole family. He said: "I've got to treat the girls and I'm going to treat the lady." Melvin and Lesley had travelled to Liverpool from Hinckley in Leicestershire and they were grateful to the people of the city for their warm welcome.
