Oaks Christian should be in good shape on defense this season with four players on the Daily News’ list of top defenders going into the 2024 season.
Oaks Christian’s Hayden Lowe tackles Chaparral quarterback Dash Beierly, Nov. 3, 2023, in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 2 playoffs at Oaks Christian High School. Fall camp for the area’s high school football teams has brought in a host of returners on both offense and defense for the 2024 season.
Here is a look at some of the area’s top defensive players to watch :Benjamin has combined physicality and finesse to become one of the top players in the secondary in the Daily News area. He had a standout sophomore season with 40 tackles , two interceptions and a blocked field goal.The dual-sport athlete — baseball and football — returns to the gridiron this fall. He will have plenty of opportunities to grow his stats, which included eight tackles for a loss and six sacks in 2023.
Newbury Park quarterback Brady Smigiel is tackled by Cory McEnroe and Dean Harrington of Thousand Oaks during their CIF Southern Section Division 5 semifinal game November 17, 2023.McEnroe picked up five college offers in the offseason after being named the Canyon League linebacker of the year with 124 tackles . This will be his second season at Thousand Oaks.Navarro is a brutish linebacker who can get to the quarterback — he had three sacks and six QB hurries as a sophomore.
