A reboot of the Pirates of the Caribbean series is thought to be in the early stages of development, with Bruckheimer himself detailing how the intention is for the franchise to move away from Johnny Depp's Captain Jack Sparrow and focus on new characters played by different stars. A Margot Robbie-led Pirates of the Caribbean movie was thought to be a priority. However, that no longer appears to be the case based on delays in progress with the spinoff.
Pirates of the Caribbean is one of the many film properties owned by Disney, and, thanks to Star Wars, Ridley already has lots of experience with the House of Mouse. It's likely that she has a strong relationship with important people at Disney, and her willingness to return to the role of Rey demonstrates that, unlike some of her co-stars, Ridley doesn't feel disillusioned by her time working on Star Wars.
