Playing through the middle, the Japanese star netted a brace in 3-1 Premier Sports Cup win over Hibs at Easter Road
Daizen Maeda showed he can be Celtic’s main striker but Brendan Rodgers admitted the Japanese star would still prefer to wing it.
Celtic have now won all three games this season and Rodgers waxed lyrically how good his team were against Hibs. He said:”I thought we were very, very good, as good as we've been. I know in some of the other games we've been excellent, but I thought we were very good from the start - the tempo and the speed in the game.
“For health reasons and other reasons, he just took a little bit of time. But you see the importance of having a good pre-season. He looks faster, he looks stronger, he looks more dynamic, he's more aggressive in his game because that's what he needed to do. Rodgers said: “I feel great in a couple of ways. One, we're at home. I think all you ever want is a home draw.
Rodgers also claimed that he helped McGlynn get back in the dugout at Raith Rovers. He has since gone to Falkirk and had his own invincible season to win League One in style. “Obviously, he'd been out of it for a number of years. But he went to Raith and did a fantastic job. We stayed in contact when he left and when I went to Leicester. And still to this day, we message each other.”
