The Hoops ace was given his marching orders late on against Young Boys at Celtic Park on Wednesday night
Daizen Maeda issued a grovelling apology to Celtic fans over his red card - but was quickly told by supporters he had nothing to be sorry for.
The Japanse star was sent off in the closing stages of the Champions League win over Young Boys at Parkhead which secured a place in the knockout stage playoff. Maeda’s dismissal for kicking out at Mohamed Ali Camara didn’t cost his team in the end, although he will now miss the final league phase fixture away to Aston Villa.
The 27-year-old took to social media to say: “Thank you for your support. I’m really sorry for causing trouble to the team in such a wonderful atmosphere. I’ll continue to do my best for the team. Congratulations to all the Celtic fans and supporters.” But the first reply said “You can do whatever you want my man,” while another said: “No apologies needed Daizen. Congratulations to you and the team.” One supporter simply said: "Legend."
Celtic won thanks to a late own goal Loris Benito when Hoops substitute Adam Idah forced the Young Boys skipper to put through his own net. The victory sees Celtic on 12 points.
